Information Minister Urges Community Radios To Empower People

MONROVIA, March 18 (LINA) – Information Minister Lewis Brown has challenged community radio managers to remain vigilant in empowering Liberians to enhance the development of the people and their communities.

Minister Brown observed that community radios played a pivotal role in the fight against the Ebola virus, noting that the radios enabled Liberians in rural parts to adhere to preventive measures outlined by the Ministry of Health and partners.

He was speaking Tuesday at a program on community radios and the Ebola crisis under theme: “Trusted Voices in Challenging Times” organized by IREX in collaboration with Mercy Corps and USAID at the Monrovia City Hall.

Minister Brown explained that if community radios can use their platforms to fight
Ebola collectively, they should also use it to provide accurate information to the Liberian people to enhance the development process.

He emphasized that community radios should commit themselves to truth-telling because nearly 90 percent of the rural population listens to community radios, noting that the air waves can empower or destroy people and communities.

Minister Brown emphasized that Liberians should join hands to build their nation because nobody from abroad will develop Liberia.
