Youth & Sports Minister Apologizes To Senate
By Winnie Dixon, LINA

MONROVIA, March 17 (LINA) - Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe Tuesday apologized to the Liberian Senate for his failure to appear before the body’s Ad hoc Committee on Sports on February 19.

In a communication to the Committee on February 19, Minister Nagbe indicated that his inability to appear was due to the Senate’s failure to make any appropriation in the 2014/2015 Fiscal Year budget for the National County Sports Meet.

But he wrote again and appeared before the body on March 17, saying his failure to appear was not intended to obstruct the work of the committee or the Senate in general, stating that the County Meet was already postponed because of lack of budgetary allocation.

In the letter, Nagbe requested that the body grants him clemency and spares him the contempt charge, adding that he is ready to cooperate with the committee and the Senate.

Meanwhile, the body has instructed the Minister Nagbe to publish his apology in three local dailies as well as the social and print media and make copies of said publications available to the committee in a week.

The Senate, in its decision, also cautioned Nagbe against the use of harsh words, since he is under obligation to appear before the committee and the body when requested to enhance collaboration and cooperation among government officials.
