Man, 30, Gets 5 Years For Manslaughter

By Comfort M. Johnson

MONROVIA, March 10 (LINA) -A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in jail at the Monrovia Central Prison for killing an unidentified woman in the Gardnersville suburb of Monrovia on September 24, 2014.

Criminal Court “A” Resident Judge Roosevelt Willie sentenced Morris Jarbo on Monday, March 9, after finding him guilty of manslaughter in a non-jury trial.

Judge Willie said his decision to sentence the defendant was based upon a request from the prosecution lawyer requesting the court to make use of chapter 47.7 of the Criminal Procedure Law which amended the charge of murder to manslaughter.

The defense did not object.

Jarbo was arrested at King Joy Town in Garwula District in Grand Cape Mount County on October 10, 2014.

He had admitted to committing the crime during his indictment at the court, according to the Liberia News Agency.
