GRAND KRU, March 7 (LINA) - The William R. Tolbert Airport in Grand Cess, Grand Kru County has been refurbished and dedicated after completion of reconstruction works by local oil palm firm, Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL).
The 1,500 feet-long airport, which was built by the President William R. Tolbert government in 1974 as a Rally Time project, was closed to air traffic as a result of the 14-year civil conflict.
Golden Veroleum Liberia said it decided to rehabilitate the airstrip following formal arrangement with government to enhance its operations in the county.
In an interview with the Liberia New Agency recently, City Mayor Stephen Toe said the decision by GVL to rehabilitate the airport will go a long way in improving the social economic development of the county.
He lauded the construction of an air terminal by citizens with the support of the UN Development Program, noting that four persons have already been employed and assigned at the airport that is currently operating a three-flight-per-week schedule.
