Bomi NTAL Head Wants Teachers’ Pay System Improved

TUBMANBURG, February 27 (LINA) - The President of the National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) Bomi County Branch, Isaac Kamara, is appealing to Government to improve the pay system of teachers in the county.
Kamara said the current system under which pay teams from the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) go to the county to pay teachers is hindering the effectiveness of teachers on the job.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency Thursday, Kamara said teachers have to travel from their assigned areas to Tubmanburg to get their pay checks which often takes days to complete.
“As a result, over 50 teachers did not receive their salary checks for the month of January 2015 due to the number of complicated instructions from the pay teams,” he disclosed.
Kamara observed that teachers, especially those in the rural areas, should be made to open bank accounts at designated banks so that their salaries can be transferred there instead of paying them in checks, which sometimes get missing.
Meanwhile, he has called on the government to speedily pay the 50 affected teachers their January 2015 salary.
