VP Boakai Pledges Support To FOI Law
MONROVIA, February 26 (LINA) -Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has pledged his full support to the timely and effective implementation of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law.
He has accordingly called for adequate support by stakeholders to the Independent Information Commission in raising massive public awareness about the FOI Law at the national level.
Vice President Boakai was speaking Wednesday when the Commissioner of the IIC, Counselor Mark Bedor-Wla Freeman paid a courtesy call on him at his Capitol Building office.
The Liberian Vice President noted that appropriate public awareness and understanding of the FOI Law and other legal instruments passed into law was paramount for full compliance of the public to these laws.
He attributed non-compliance to lack of understanding of the law.
According to press release from the IIC, VP Boakai challenged the Commission to focus more on creating public understanding of the law across the country.
He assured government’s willingness to continue to promote accountability and transparency through the domestication of international instruments that seek to promote good governance.
Briefing VP Boakai earlier, Commissioner Freeman described his visit to the Vice President as an important outreach because, he noted, the Vice President’s office is strategically positioned between the Executive and Legislative branches of government.
