MONROVIA, January 27 (LINA) - Montserrado County is the only place in Liberia that is now the “active place of the transport of the Ebola virus,” the head of the Incident Management Team (IMT), Tolbert Nyenswah, has disclosed.
He said the fact that 13 counties have reported no new cases recently shows “there is a drastic reduction in new Ebola cases in the country,” the Liberia News Agency reports.
Nyenswah made the disclosure when he addressed the MICAT regular Ebola press briefing at the ministry Tuesday.
He pointed out that Montserrado reports between one to two cases daily, citing the St Paul Bridge Community as the place still feared and where the last two cases were reported of late.He revealed that Grand Cape Mount County has gone 12 days without confirming new cases, while only one patient is at the ETU in Sinje.
Nyenswah added that if the county goes 21 days with no new cases, it will join the list of 13 other counties that have stopped reporting new cases.
He emphasized that the Government of Liberia was keen on cross-border activities because, according to him, it is one of the simplest ways by which the virus could be transported to Liberia.
Meanwhile, touching on the reopening of schools on February 2, 2015 as announced by the government, Nyenswah said the Ministry of Health was making frantic efforts to ensure that schools are safe.
