Agriculture Inspector Opts For Food Security In Bong
By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent
GBARNGA, January 22 (LINA) - Bong County Agriculture Inspector for Communal and Local Farming, Oscar Dean, is appealing to the county leadership and the Agriculture Ministry to support local farmers with tools to enhance their agricultural activities.
He told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that the county can only achieve food security when the requisite tools and support are given farmers, noting that many of them are enthusiastic to farm, but lack the needed tools and support.
Dean said despite the lack of adequate support, he is working with farmer groups across the county to cultivate wetlands which produce high yields.
He disclosed that they are also involved in the planting of vegetables such as cassava, bitter balls and watermelons, among others.
Meanwhile, Dean has lauded the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) and the county agriculture coordinator for supplying standardized seeds to farmers.
