Buchanan Street Peddlers Face Relocation

By Johnson Bobby Liway, LINA Grand Bassa County Correspondent

BUCHANAN, January 13 (LINA) -Stakeholders in the Port City of Buchanan have unanimously agreed to rid the city’s Broad Street of petty traders and their stalls to give the city a facelift in the New Year.

The decision was reached at a meeting on Monday involving traders and the Buchanan City Council and officials of line ministries and agencies of government.

Speaking at the meeting, Buchanan City Mayor Julia Bono said the main entrance to the city has to be clean and traders using the sidewalks designated for pedestrians should move to the site designated for trading purposes.

She told the petty traders that the new site is located on the road to the Fairground adjacent the New Testament Baptist School.

A specific date has not been set for the relocation, but Mayor Bono told the Liberia News Agency that the exercise will begin very soon.

Bono warned traders selling along the sidewalk to keep their areas clean at all times while the City Council is deciding on the date and time for the relocation exercise.
