BUCHANAN, January 13 (LINA) - The Port of Buchanan, the second largest port under the National Port Authority (NPA), has dedicated new offices for its managerial staff and port users in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
Welcoming guests at the port’s facilities at the weekend, Port Manager Patrick Konneh said management constructed the new facility because the old one was attached to a warehouse which faces demolition due to its proximity to the dock.
Konneh said funding for the new building was sourced from monies allotted to the port by the NPA Board and management, and praised the staff for their cooperation during the construction process.
Speaking at the dedicatory ceremony, NPA Managing Director Matilda Parker lauded Konneh for his innovation in turning vision into reality, noting: “I was taken by surprise when I saw the new structure; it tells me that one attribute that you cannot teach a leader is how to have a vision.”
Parker added: “Patrick has never seized to prove to me and Liberia that he is a model employee; if I had many Patricks, I will have less to do.”
She also thanked him for taking the port from 18 vessels a year just a few years ago to almost 200 vessels a year by expanding its traffic, adding: “As I look at this number, you have taken Buchanan Port to 2000 percent, something which is unmatched in this industry.”
Also in attendance were NPA Board Chairman F. Tornorlah Varpilah, Dock Workers Union President Jackie Doe, NPA Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Jeffrey George, Deputy Information Minister Robert Kpadeh and Buchanan City Mayor Julia Bono.
The facility includes offices of the Port Manager, Deputy for Operations, Secretarial Pool, CCTV Control Center, Finance Office, Pier Supervisor, Documentation and Records, Marine and Pilot Office, Port Liaison and GOL Affairs and Fire Service.
