Defeated Senatorial Candidate Calls For Withdrawal of Two Winners' Certificates

By Richard Stephens

MONROVIA, January 7(LINA)-A defeated Senatorial candidate of Grand Kru County, Roseline Sneh, has called on the Supreme Court to ensure that the National Elections Commission withdraws the certificates of candidates who were declared winners in the election but are being challenged by their opponents.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Madam Sneh specifically called for the withdrawal of the certificates of Blebo Brown of Maryland County and Albert Chea of Grand Kru County who were among 12 senators certificated on Saturday, January 3 by the National Elections Commission.

Madam Sneh who lost to Chea in the Grand Kru County senatorial race, made the call Wednesday in a meeting of dissatisfied candidates with the Justice-in-Chamber, Justice Philip A.Z Banks, at the Supreme Court on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

Mrs. Sneh believes that the de-certification of these candidates would help to pave the way for a smooth conduct of hearings into their complaints.

She said certificating them before conducting hearings into the case could undermine the essence of their complaints.

The number of complaints filed against the election results has risen from four to six, with Grand Kru and Gbarpolu Counties being the latest to join their colleagues in challenging the results of the polls.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court says the full Bench will look into the case following the ongoing conferences the Justice-in-Chamber is holding with aggrieved parties.
