100 Bed ETU Dedicated in Gbarpolu County

By Emmanuel Mondaye, LINA Gbarpolu County Correspondent

BOPOLU, January 5 (LINA) - The newly-constructed 100-bed Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) in Bopolu, Gbarpolu County has been dedicated on Saturday, January 3.

The ETU, which has been under construction for over one month, will provide treatment to persons affected by the Ebola disease in the county, said Allen Shaic, Construction Manager of the US-based construction firm, PAE,  that built the ETU.

He told the Liberia News Agency that the formal opening of the ETU will bring to an end the treatment of suspected Ebola patients at the Chief Jallah Lone Medical Center, the only referral medical facility in the county.

Shaic, who declined to disclose the cost of the ETU, also called on residents of the county to take advantage of the ETU facility by reporting all suspected Ebola cases there for speedy treatment and eventual curbing of the disease.

For two months now, Gbarpolu County has not reported any confirmed Ebola case.

According to Shaic, 102 non-medical staff supported by 30 medical practitioners from the Chief Jallah Lone Medical Center will work at the ETU.

Meanwhile, the UNMIL-sponsored Ebola holding room under construction at the Chief Jallah Leone Medical Center is nearing completion.
