Don’t Abandon Patients At TB Annex, Nursing Director Warns Relatives

By Robert Dixon

MONROVIA,LINA)The Nursing Director of the TB Annex in  Congo Town Ms. Martha Geian, is appealing to  parents  or guardians and others  who are in the constant habit  of abandoning  their sick relatives   at the TB Annex to desist as doing so  is not  the best way out.

She said most parents and guardians often carry their sick relatives or children to the TB Annex for treatment and abandon them without any reason even when the patients have not completed their treatment.

According to the Liberia News Agency Madam Geian made the statement Wednesday when a Women group under the banner “Women of Praise” donated some non-food items to patients at the TB Annex as their New Year gift.

She called on the government to fence the TB Hospital, because some patients usually escape from the hospital without completing their treatment which is troubling.

Geian also appealed to Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the Health Ministry to include the hospital’s employees on the “hazard benefits” intended for health workers.

“The hospital is currently catering to over 70 patients with most of the workers being volunteers receiving no benefits from the government,” Geian said.
