Firestone Begins Exporting Wood For Furniture Making
By Richard Stephens/LINA
MONROVIA, December 19 (LINA)-The Production Manager of the Firestone Rubber Plantation Company in Lower Margibi County, Richard Fallah, has disclosed that the company has begun exporting its woods for furniture making.
Speaking to reporters Thursday at the official launch of the Made- in-Liberia Trade Store at the Nancy Doe Market on 3rd street in Sinkor, Mr. Fallah said the Firestone timber meets international standard for any furniture making.
He explained that the woods which were previously used for charcoal production, are being exported to Asia, Australia, Canada and the USA, among other countries.
The production Manager however clarified that the Firestone wood is not intended for construction purposes, noting “it is a dry wood that is environmentally friendly for furniture making.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Fallah has disclosed that Firestone has also begun shipping wood in partnership with the Liberian Carpenters Union to help build their capacities, saying after the Ebola period, the same partnership will be extended to other parts of Liberia.
He encouraged local furniture producers in the country to remain focused and produce good quality furniture that would attract customers adding, “the money you’ll earn will enable you to cater for your family.”
