Man Sentenced Indefinitely For Duping Businesswoman

By Richard Stephen/LINA

MONROVIA, December 17 (LINA)-The Magisterial Court at the Temple of Justice has sentenced a 57-year-old man indefinitely at the Monrovia Central Prison for duping a Liberian businesswoman of LD$52,000.00.

Alphanso Boeing who admitted receiving the amount from Lettie Johnson under false pretense, will remain in jail until he restitutes the full amount, according to the court charge sheet.

The court charge sheet issued Wednesday, indicated that Boeing was arrested in the Monrovia suburb of Paynesville early December, 2014 and charged based on a complaint filed to the Salem Police Depot by Johnson, a resident of the Duala Community in Monrovia.

According to the charge sheet, Johnson complained that in January, 2013, she gave Boeing LD$48,000 to purchase gold for her, but never produced the item.

She added that she made several attempts to contact Boeing to provide the gold or refund her money, but his phone was switched off for more than four months.

Johnson also disclosed that she spent an additional LD$4,000 on transportation to find Boeing who had fled town..

During police preliminary investigation, Boeing admitted committing the crime, saying he could not pay the amount due to numerous problems he was confronted with.
