400 Volunteers Receive Training In Ebola Death Burials
By Calvin Brooks/LINA

MONROVIA, December 17 (LINA) - More than 400 members of the General Community Health Volunteers (GCHV) have undergone one-day training in
four localities in Montserrado County about safe and dignified burial of Ebola corpses.

The training intended to educate community dwellers about safe burial of Ebola corpses was held simultaneously at the Careysburg Clinic in Careysburg, New Kru Town, Bushrod Island, the Corina Hotel in Sinkor, Monrovia, and the Barnersville Town Hall outside Monrovia.

The Communications Development Officer of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Phil Tarpen Dixon, made the disclosure Tuesday at the Corina Hotel in an exclusive interview with the Liberia News Agency following the training program.

He indicated that under the national program “Kick Ebola Out” launched by President Sirleaf recently, UNICEF believes it requires the involvement of all Liberians by adhering to safe burial procedures announced by health authorities in order to kick Ebola out of Liberia.

He explained that the dignified manner of burying the dead is to respect the views and culture of the bereaved without unduly compromising the health and well-being of citizens.
