UNICEF Intervenes In New Ebola Outbreak In Gbarnga
By Winnie Dixon/LINA

MONROVIA, December 12 (LINA) – Two new positive cases of Ebola leading to one death, have been reported in the Gbarnga suburb of Sugar Hill
Community in Bong County.

According to the head of UNICEF county team, E. Dutch Hamilton, the new Ebola cases are said to have emanated from a young man who reportedly brought his sick father to the community from Monrovia on Sunday, December 7 in search of alternative remedies for his ailment.

Hamilton said the two had gone to Monrovia to provide care for one of the man’s children who died during their stay in the capital.

When community members noticed the abnormal health condition of the family, they immediately contacted the county health team who placed the entire family under quarantine.

The situation nearly became chaotic when community members began insisting on the removal of the entire family from the community, while the family indicated that they had no intention to leave their belongings and home to go somewhere else for 21 days.

The standoff was only resolved through  the swift intervention of the UNICEF county team led by E. Dutch Hamilton and Rufus Kelly, who sent community mobilizers to go from house-to-house in the Sugar Hill Community and convinced the family to go to the Community Care Center (CCC) for treatment.

With the 15 new arrivals at the CCC, the total number of inmates at the Community Care Center now stands at 40 persons or full capacity, Hamilton said.

He said social mobilization, surveillance and active case finding are to continue  in Sugar Hill Community.
