Pres. Sirleaf Wants Partnership Lifted From Treatment To Prevention

MONROVIA, December 5 (LINA)-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has informed the visiting U.S delegation that as the fight against the Ebola Virus is still on, the visit was for both governments to discuss elevating the partnership from treatment to prevention.

According to the Liberian leader, this can be achieved by giving more communities responsibility and control, as well as rebuilding the country's healthcare system to ensure that there is no recurrence as
the country moves to the next phase of economic recovery.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the statement   when she welcomed U.S Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield, head of a 10-member U.S. delegation in Liberia, during a joint-press stakeout at the Foreign
Ministry on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.

In remarks earlier, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said they are on a three-day visit to assess the current state of Liberia’s fight against the Ebola virus, specifically U.S. support to the fight.

The release said the delegation also flew to Bong County to visit the U.S funded Ebola virus disease laboratory, a safe burial site, as well as the Bong County Ebola Treatment Unit, and observed an Ebola
survivors' seminar for healthcare workers. at the National Police Training Academy in Paynesville City.

She particularly recognized the efforts of the U.S. military alongside the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), especially the coordination between the two militaries to address this problem.

Meanwhile, the former U.S. Ambassador to Liberia has held meetings with officials of the United Nations Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER), United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Program (WFP) and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia Brigadier General Daniel Ziankhan.
