By Comfort M. Johnson

MONROVIA November 14 (LINA) –Six residents of the West Point Community including 30 year-old Leroy Ponpon,  have been charged by the Liberia National Police with “ rioting, failure to disperse,  criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and criminal coercion”.

Defendant Leroy Ponpon was on November 10, arrested by the Liberia National Police for his involvement in illegal assembly with Kenneth Matu, William Weah, Ernest Tweh, Telvin Nimely, and Mathew Worjolo who are at large.

They were part of the group headed by Ponpon who set a road block at the residence of the Township Commissioner of West Point Commissioner Miatta H. Flowers.

The Police charge sheet said defendant Ponpon allegedly chanted anti-government slogans. blocked vehicles and pedestrian traffic, prevented the free movement of the commissioner, demanding that she should resign her post as commissioner of the township and denying her free passage to and from her residence.

The Liberia News Agency reports that complainant  Flowers alleged that defendant Ponpon along with others held a meeting in West Point to plan the demonstration and demand her resignation.

Flowers said upon receiving the information, she immediately contacted the Chief of Patrol, Prince David  and informed him about the situation.

Defendant Ponpon was on Friday taken to the Monrovia City Court to answer to the charges of rioting, failure to disperse, criminal mischief  and criminal coercion.

Defendant Ponpon has denied the allegation, saying “I do not have any idea about what is being said”.
