MONROVIA, November 14 (LINA) – Visiting European Union (EU) Ebola Coordinator and Commissioner for Humanitarian and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, has said the EU will firmly uphold support to Liberia to ensure the country achieves its development agenda.

Stylianides said EU support to Liberia will always remain tangible, especially in the face of the ongoing Ebola crisis that has claimed so many lives.

“Liberia will not be left alone in this fight; we will stand by you,” the EU envoy said at a joint press conference held with Liberia’s Foreign Minister Augustine  Ngafuan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia on Friday.

He indicated that his visit to Liberia is intended to assess the current health crisis in an effort to identify specific needs of the Liberian people for the necessary intervention.

He noted that the current reduction in the case load of the Ebola virus proves that the Government and people of Liberia are working robustly to bring an end to the health crisis.

Stylianides is  jointly heading a 15-member high-level EU mission currently visiting the three most Ebola-affected countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Speaking on behalf of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Foreign Minister Augustine Ngafuan thanked EU for its continued support to Liberia, especially during this period of the Ebola crisis.
