Pres. Sirleaf Accepts Amb. Weah’s Resignation
MONROVIA, November 12 (LINA) -President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has received the letter of resignation from Mr. George M. Weah ,  Liberia’s Peace Ambassador.

According to an Executive Mansion release, Ambassador Weah presented his letter of resignation following a lengthy meeting with the President at her Foreign Ministry office on Tuesday, November 11.

Weah, who is also the political leader of the Congress for Democratic Change, said his resignation is consistent with the policy pronouncement by the President requesting all members of the Executive qualified by the National Elections Commission (NEC) to participate in the upcoming senatorial election to resign their posts.

He is among many qualified by the NEC for the upcoming Special Senatorial Elections.

During the meeting, Ambassador Weah thanked the Liberian leader for allowing him to serve as Peace Ambassador which enabled him to contribute to the promotion of peace and stability in the country.

He promised to continue working for the promotion and sustenance of peace where ever he finds himself.

In response, President Sirleaf thanked Weah for his service and his immense contributions to the sustenance of peace and stability in Liberia.

The Liberian leader encouraged him to continue to do whatever he can and in whatever capacity to promote peace and stability in the country.

Ambassador Weah was appointed Liberia’s Peace Ambassador in December 2012.
