Health Official: "Liberia Not Yet Ebola-Free"

MONROVIA, November 3 (LINA) - Assistant Health Minister for Preventive Services, Tolbert Nyenswah, has cautioned Liberians to be mindful that the country “is not yet free from Ebola, regardless of the reduction in the case load.”

Nyenswah said there are still over 200 patients in Ebola Treatment Units, and that a total of 39 probable, suspected and confirmed Ebola cases were recorded from November 2 to 3, 2014.

Addressing the daily Ebola briefing at the Ministry of Information in Monrovia Monday, he warned Liberians against complacency which, he said, has the propensity to overturn the success scored in the fight against the virus.

Nyenswah indicated that as long as Liberia and its closest neighbors -- Guinea
and Sierra Leone -- are still recording Ebola cases, Liberians cannot assume that the fight against the disease is over, even if only one case is reported.

“It is not yet over until we stop transmitting the virus completely. It will not be over until all counties report zero cases for over 21 days and in the next 42 days in our country,” Nyenswah emphasized.
