Youth Advisor Blames Ebola Spread on Collapse of  Health System
By Decontee Wesseh, Intern

MONROVIA, October 22 (LINA) -The Youth Advisor to the President, Emmanuel Dolo, has blamed the spread of the Ebola virus to breakdown in the country’s healthcare delivery system.

Dr. Dolo noted that the scale at which the disease erupted overwhelmed the entire healthcare system as there was lack of basic medical equipment to tackle the virus.

He made the statement at the Ministry of Information daily Ebola news conference held in the conference hall of the ministry in Monrovia on Tuesday.

The Youth Advisor also said the lack of adequately trained healthcare workers was also another key reason why the virus rapidly devastated the country.

He, however, noted that the situation can be improved through partnership and coordination between the government and healthcare workers as well as international partners.

Meanwhile, Dolo has pointed out that the reduction in the number of cases at Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) does not mean that everything is okay, noting, “It should rather serve as a catalyst in making us do more.”

He also called on journalists to be careful how they release information to the public, especially about Ebola, to avoid worsening the situation.
