Plan Liberia To Set Up Care Centers In Bomi

MONROVIA, October 20 (LINA) – Plan Liberia will establish three interim care centers in Bomi County for children who have been infected and discharged or who lost their parents to the Ebola virus and are now vulnerable.

The charity said this is in line with the government’s new protocol on alternative care, and that Plan will support the three centers through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare which will manage them.

Plan Liberia Country Director Oumarou Koala made the disclosure in a letter to the Liberia News Agency clarifying media reports that Plan Liberia would build homes for Ebola orphans in Bomi County.

He explained that Plan would instead set up the interim care centers to provide temporary care, support and protection to the vulnerable children, noting that the centers are considered last options where there is no family-based option.

Koala said while the children are at the centers, care givers will observe, provide psycho-social support and other basic needs support to the children, while there will be an active family tracing to facilitate family reunification.
