WFP Distributes Relief Food In Grand Gedeh

By Chris Nyenapee, LINA Grand Gedeh County Correspondent

ZWEDRU, October 19 (LINA) - The World Food Program (WFP) has begun distribution of about 200 metric tons of relief food to targeted population in Grand Gedeh County.

Already, beneficiaries are receiving food in Gbarzon District, where assessment started with the NGO ADRA serving as implementing partner, according to WFP head of field office, Mr.Johnny N’dorbor..

The relief assistance was earlier earmarked for pregnant women, the disabled and Ebola survivors, among others, but has been increased based on prevailing needs, N’dorbor explained.

N’dorbor disclosed that the distribution started with bulgar wheat, beans and oil because bad road was hindering the transportation of rice.

In a related development, Welt Hunger Hilfe, WHH, a German NGO, has distributed faucet-fitted buckets to over 1,600 households with disinfectants for hand washing, a preventive measure against the Ebola virus.

Also, the County Health Team (CHT) has trained another batch of 132 community health volunteers to beef up its Ebola awareness campaign in all eight administrative districts, the  CHT Coordinator, Mr. Netus Nowina has disclosed.
