Pres. Sirleaf Tells German Envoy Liberia’s Priorities
MONROVIA, October 16 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has told Germany’s Ebola Coordinator that eradication of the disease, restoration of healthcare delivery services and economic recovery are core issues during this period of the country.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf, receiving Germany’s Ebola Coordinator, Ambassador Johannes Lindner, also told him that his country could be more helpful in their intervention by strengthening and capacitating community-based healthcare services.
During the meeting, she noted that Germany has always stood by Liberia dating to the time of the country’s independence and recalled Liberia’s donor conference held in Berlin, Germany at the inception of her administration in 2006.
“Germany,” she said, “has been even more helpful in supporting the country’s energy and power sectors.”
She thanked Ambassador Lindner for accepting to come to Liberia at such an unpleasant time in the country’s history.
“This is a clear show of solidarity that reflects that Germany still stands by Liberia in its time of distress,” President Sirleaf emphasized.
Responding, the German Ebola Coordinator presented compliments from German Chancellor Angela Merkel and expressed how gravely concerned she is about the Ebola situation in Liberia.
He informed President Sirleaf that he was in Liberia to assess the situation, inquire as to how Germany can be of more help and join the fight to end the ravaging Ebola outbreak.
