By Calvin Brooks
MONROVIA, October 12 (LINA)-The Focal Person of the Community Care Center (CCC), Dr. Thelma Nelson, has disclosed plans to construct more
than 200 Ebola transit centers across Liberia.
Dr. Nelson explained that the Ebola transit centers are intended to provide care for people who develop the symptoms and signs of Ebola in
The CCC Focal Person made the disclosure Saturday at a one-day workshop organized by the United States Center for Disease Control
(CDC) for community-based organizations in Liberia held at a local hotel in the Monrovia suburb of Sinkor.
She noted that the CCC is also intended to reduce the huge number of patients at the various Ebola Treatment Units who might not have
access to early treatment due to lack of space for them to be attended to immediately.
She said this will prevent the further spread and transmission of the deadly disease in many communities, noting that the CCC is a
community-based structure intended to contain the Ebola epidemic in Liberia.
Dr. Nelson said the construction of community care centers for Ebola suspected patients is being supported by the health ministry and international partners to combat Ebola and other treatable diseases.
She pointed out that the CCCs are expected to be built in Margibi and Nimba Counties shortly, adding that six centers are expected to be built in Montserrado County.
