BUCHANAN, October 12 (LINA) – The Grand Bassa Ebola Taskforce has released an update of Ebola cases in the county, recording a total of
36 confirmed and suspected deaths and 11 survivors between July and October 8, 2014.
Briefing journalists at the office of the Grand Bassa County Health Team in Buchanan Friday, the County Health Services Administrator,
Joyce W. Garblah, said of the 36 deaths, 30 are confirmed Ebola positive cases, while 6 are probable. She said out of the 36 cases, 24 are males and 12 females.
She said between October 1 and 8, there was one confirmed Ebola case of a one-year old child who is currently undergoing treatment at the
Liberia Government Hospital Ebola Holding Unit in Buchanan.
According to Madam Garblah, 87 cumulative Ebola cases have been recorded in the county from July to date and that out of these,
Buchanan District has recorded 44, Owensgrove District 6, District # 1(14), District II (08), District III(09) and District IV(06).
She said of the 87 cumulative cases, 50 are confirmed positive Ebola cases with Buchanan District recording 24, Owensgrove 6, District 1,
nine, District II, six, District III four and District IV, one. She said 326 contacts are being traced in the county, out of which more than 200 persons have completed their 21 days of observation.
Meanwhile, according to Garblah, 25 health practitioners from the Liberia Government Hospital in Buchanan, Arcelor Mittal and Catholic
Health Center have completed training at the Island Clinic in Monrovia and returned to Bassa.
She said challenges faced by the Bassa Ebola Taskforce include lack of an ambulance for the referral of Ebola cases in the county to
Monrovia, and contact tracing.
