House Wants Senatorial Election Conducted

By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, October 9(LINA)-Barely one day after President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf announced the suspension of the Mid-term Senatorial Election until the Ebola Virus is contained, the House of Representatives has resolved to draft a resolution mandating the National Election  Commission of Liberia (NEC) to  conduct said election in December this year.

The House said the resolution will be drafted on Friday, October 10, 2014 at a Special Session and to the Liberian Senate the same day for concurrence, and forwarded to the President for signature by next week Monday.

The House noted that although it agreed for the election which was scheduled to have taken place on October   14, 2014 due to the Ebola outbreak in the country, holding such election beyond this year will not augur well for the governance process of the country, the Liberia News Agency reports.
