Police Probing 200 Bags Of Rice ‘Theft’ At Harley Hospital
By Wellington Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, October 4 (LINA) - Nimba County Superintendent Fong Zuagele has ordered a police investigation into the alleged disappearance of over 200 bags of rice from the warehouse of the G.W. Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie.

About a month ago, the World Food Program (WFP) donated 1,000 bags of rice to feed patients quarantined across the county as a result of the Ebola outbreak.

The supplies were deposited in the warehouse of the hospital in Sanniquellie with disbursing authorization signatures from Reginald Mehn, the County Inspector of Nimba and Kou Yeelebo, Head of the hospital’s Psycho-social Department.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Crime Services Department (CSD) of the Liberia National Police (LNP), James Karto, has disclosed that on Wednesday, October 1, security agents arrested a truck with plate number TP-766 transporting several food items from Sanniquellie to Saclepea in Nimba County.

Commander Karto said the consignment comprised 15 gallons of vegetable oil, 10 bags of beans, and 200 bags of the 25kg rice.

Karto told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) that three persons were on October 3 arrested in connection with the cargo, including Kou Yeelebo, Head of the Psychosocial and Mental Counseling Department of the G. W.Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie.

Others are Papa Konneh, driver of a truck with license plate TP-766 and Alex Kwah, an alleged facilitator of the transportation of the stolen goods.

Superintendent Zuagele said individuals involved in the theft will face the full weight of the law when found guilty.
