MIA Minister Nudges Chiefs, Elders To Join Ebola Fight
By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, October 2 (LINA) - Ministry Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly has called on chiefs and elders to join the government in the fight to eradicate the Ebola virus from the country.

Describing chiefs as “powerful people” in their communities, Dukuly urged them to “use your greatness” in the interest of the people by sensitizing them on measures that will help save their lives.

Minister Dukuly was speaking during the opening session of a four-day consultative meeting on Ebola, organized by the Carter Center for chiefs and elders at the Gbarnga administrative building Wednesday.

The Internal Affairs Minister also challenged the chiefs and elders to transmit messages and lessons learned on Ebola to every part of the country, emphasizing, “Your participation will seriously help in this fight.”

He then lauded Carter Center and the American Government for paving the way for international attention that has continued to win financial, material and technical assistance for the government.

In remarks earlier, Bong County Superintendent Selena Polson Mappy thanked the Carter Center and partners for the meeting which, she said, will serve as a brainstorming session on ways to “fight our unseen enemy.”

She stressed the need for a greater force that will combat and stop the deadly virus from “attempting to consume the entire population.”
