UNMIL Approves US$22.9k For Bassa Ebola Task Force

BUCHANAN, September 29 (LINA) -The United Nations Mission in Liberia has approved a cash donation of US$22,965 and assorted items for the Grand Bassa County Task Force to aid in the fight against the Ebola virus.
Of the amount, US$18, 370 has been given to the Task Force in cash and kind, according to the acting spokesman of the County Ebola Task Force,
Williams said US$7,150 will be distributed among the seven districts in Bassa for a period of two months for community awareness and US$1, 500 to five community radios, excluding the LACSA Community Radio Station at the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC), for Ebola awareness.
He told an Ebola Task Force briefing at the weekend that the assorted items donated by UNMIL include 10 mega phones, 100 faucet-fitted buckets and detergents.
Meanwhile, Williams has disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Task Force and Global Community, an NGO funded by USAID, to take responsibility for burial of Ebola victims for three months.
Under the MOU, stipends and eight vehicles will be provided by USAID to the burial team to enhance its effectiveness.
He also disclosed that ArcelorMittal Arcelor Mittal has already built three holding centers at the Government Hospital in Buchanan and has agreed to build additional 10 holding units that will be later transformed into a Mini-Ebola Treatment Centers.
In a related development, the county administration, Ebola Task Force, government hospital and Ministry of National Defense have agreed that the U.S Department of Defense using a contingent of US Marines in Liberia, construct an Ebola Treatment Unit in Buchanan.
According to Williams, land provided by the county administration has already been cleared by for the construction of the unit.
