District Commissioner Quarantined After 3Ebola Deaths

By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent

BONG MINES, September 24 (LINA) - The Bong County Health Team (CHT) has quarantined Fuamah District Commissioner Hampton Giddings and some residents of Bong Mines whose homes are close to the homes of three persons who recently died of the Ebola disease.

Making the disclosure to reporters in Bong Mines, Bong County Health Officer, Dr. Samson K. Arzoaquoi, said Commissioner Giddings and the others were quarantined following the death of a lady identified as Fatu Cephus and two others last week in the community.

Commissioner Giddings, who is not comfortable with the decision to quarantine them, was Monday served his monthly supply as he undergoes 21 days of observation.

Dr. Arzoaquoi said while under the 21 days observation, Commissioner Giddings will not be allowed to leave Bong Mines for Handii where his official residence and office are located.

The commissioner is said to have left his official seat in Handii for Bong Mines where he has been quarantined by health authorities.

It is believed that individuals who left Kakata in Margibi County following the outbreak of the virus and went to Bong Mines in Fuamah District, Bong County spread the virus to the iron ore mining area.

The Ebola virus has spread to several communities in Bong County, including Cephus Town, Naygan, and Mawah Town, which is the most recent where eight persons have already died reportedly of the virus.
