Man Gets10 Years For Rape
By Comfort Johnson

MONROVIA, September 18 (LINA)  - The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County has sentenced defendant Sheik Kenneth to 10 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl.

Announcing the sentence Wednesday, Presiding Judge Blamo Dixon said defendant Kenneth raped the child by inserting his finger into her vagina at a dump site near the New Ganta Parking Station in Gbarnga City in March this year.

He said the defendant escaped from the scene upon committing the crime but was arrested on April 5, 2014 by the Liberia National Police, exactly four days after the incident.

Judge Dixon pointed out that defendant Kenneth pleaded guilty to the allegation when his indictment was read to him in open court and pleaded with the court for mercy on grounds that his act was “a result of the devil.”

The Judge disclosed that due to the defendant’s voluntary confession, the jury on September 10, 2014 maintained that defendant Kenneth warranted his conviction for alleged commission of the crime of rape.

Defendant Kenneth was therefore sentenced to 10 years in jail at the Gbarnga Central Prison with immediate effect.
