GANTA, September 17 (LINA) – Financial donations made to the Ganta Ebola Response Unit in Ganta, Nimba County since the fight against Ebola started has totaled US$8,000, an official of the Unit has disclosed.
Ms. Eliza Gbeingean, Public Relations Officer, said US$5,000 came from the Nimba County Social Development Fund, while US$3,000 was donated by several businesses, prominent citizens and community-based organizations.
Gbeingean made the disclosure when she briefed reporters following a task force meeting Tuesday at the administration building in Ganta, a commercial hub in Nimba County.
She said apart from the monetary donations, community dwellers donated food and material items, including sugar, rice, sardines, spoons, plates, cups, gallons of oil and detergents, noting that all these donations helped to “boost the fight against the perilous outbreak of the virus.”
‘The Ebola Response Unit of Ganta appreciates community dwellers and partners joining the fight against the lethal virus in the city,” Gbeingean said.
For her part, the City Mayor of Ganta, Dorr Cooper, expressed appreciation for both the monetary and material donations, and called for more cooperation as efforts intensify to curb further spread of the virus in the county.
