Chief Claims ‘Bush Cows’ Destroying Crops

By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, September 17 (LINA) -The Town Chief of Tahn Town, Gola Konneh District in Grand Cape Mount County, Sando Konneh, has raised alarm over destruction of food crops on farms by animals.

He said because of the animals he described as “bush cows”, many farmers in the area are afraid to carry out normal farming activities.

Town Chief Konneh told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) that the ‘bush cows’ are destroying rice, cassava, plantain, banana and other cash crops.

He added that because of the havoc the animals are wreaking, farmers in the area are afraid to continue their traditional farming activities.

He explained that owing to the government’s hunting regulations, animals are on the rampage and sometimes go to the extent of entering towns and villages.

The chief is appealing to relevant government agencies to provide protection for their farms to avoid the destruction of crops and imminent hunger.
