Two Armed Robbers Killed In Buchanan

By Johnson Liway, LINA Grand Bassa County Correspondent

BUCHANAN, September 14 (LINA) – In the wake of persistent armed robbery incidents in and around the city of Buchanan, two notorious armed robbers were Sunday morning killed in the Dark Forest community.

The two are said to have opened fire on the community watch team and police, who later overpowered and subsequently killed by the community watch team.

According to Zodia Jackson, who was wounded by shots fired by the robbers, the armed robbers early Sunday began terrorizing the Flour Mill Community, shooting indiscriminately.

He said members of the community watch team informed the police and gave chase to the robbers who opened fire again in the Dark Forest Field, where the vigilantes overpowered and killed them.

Inspector Gregory Coleman of the Liberia National Police, who traveled from Monrovia, told LINA that one of the dead armed robbers is known as Lewis Kennedy, a notorious criminal who was on the Interpol Red Notice.

Also speaking to the Liberia News Agency, Bassa Police Chief Federick Nepay said he received a tip-off from the Flour Mill Community and moved in with the Joint Security.

Asked whether he was happy about the development, Nepay said: “I am not happy when shooting goes on in Buchanan. I am not happy but we brought the situation under control, so the citizens are jubilating."

Meanwhile, Nepay has praised the community watch team and the Joint Security for the gallantry exhibited in the incident.
