Residents Fear Spread Of Ebola Virus In Community
By Robert Dixon
MONROVIA, September 6 (LINA) – Residents of Studio Junction Community in the ELWA area have called on authorities of the Ministry of Health to institute protective measures at ELWA treatment unit to stop the disease from affecting their community.
The residents said their concern is drawn from recent incident in which several suspected Ebola patients, many of whom were sick and helpless, were abandoned at the entrance of the ELWA Treatment Unit where they slept.
They made the comments in separate interviews with the Liberian News Agency, noting that they have fear that the virus is likely to break up in their community as there are no proper preventive measures at the ELWA Treatment center.
One of the residents, Sarah Browne, said they are living in total fear as abandoned Ebola patients are found sleeping on people’s porches, stressing “That was why we protested against the construction of this center, but no one listened to us, now here we are facing such precarious situation.”
Meanwhile, the residents are calling on the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to ensure their safety or remove the center from their community to prevent further health crisis in the area.
