IIC Freeman Urges Media To Deepen Anti-Ebola Campaign

By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, September 4 (LINA) -The Commissioner of the Independent Information Commission (IIC), Cllr. Michael Bedor-Wla Freeman, has challenged the Liberian media to deepen the sensitization campaign against the Ebola virus.

Freeman said journalists should use their media outlets to ensure that people across the country, especially in inaccessible areas, receive preventive messages issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and partners.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), Cllr. Freeman proffered the challenge Wednesday when he appeared on the Liberia Broadcasting Corporation (ELBC) talk show, the ‘Early Morning Talk’.

While acknowledging that the media have been doing well in the fight against the Ebola virus, he pointed out that more needed to be done to contain the spread of the virus.

Freeman also stressed the need for institutions and individuals to assist media organizations with logistics and fuel to help beef up their strength as they continue to inform and educate the public about the spread and prevention of the epidemic.

Meanwhile, Freeman has emphasized the need for people to suspend some cultural and religious practices that have the propensity to spread the deadly virus.
