Gedeh Court Frees 8 Pre-Trial Detainees

By: Chris Nyenapee, LINA Grand Gedeh County Correspondent

ZWEDRU City, August 31 (LINA) - Resident Judge George S. Wiles of the7th Judicial Circuit Court in Grand Gedeh County has set free eight pre-trial detainees.

The inmates, all males, were set free over the weekend after a careful review of their case files by prosecution in a bid to ease congestion at the National Palace of Correction in the wake of the Ebola pandemic in the country.

Ordering the release in open court, Judge Wiles said the court had no other option but to concur with the request of prosecution to free the detainees.

He, however, urged the detainees to behave well and observe preventive measures put in place to contain the spread of the disease.

The men have all thanked government for the gesture.

Many of them were in detention for more than one term of court for crimes including assault, theft of property and other misdemeanor.

It can be recalled that early last week County Attorney Adolphus Karnuah introduced three attorneys-at-law in the county who, he said, had come to assist prosecution in criminal cases.

He said review of pre-trial detainees would be priority as the country goes through this period of the Ebola outbreak
