Lawmaker Wants Taskforce Do Community Screening

By: Robert Dixon

MONROVIA, August 30 (LINA) - Montserrado County Representative Richmond Anderson has recommended that government empowers the National Task Force on Ebola to move into communities to screen residents.

He said this should be in addition to other measures such as the closure of all schools, leave for non-essential staff at ministries and agencies of government, the curfew and the closure of all markets at major borders, among others.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Representative Anderson of District #12 made the call Saturday in an interview with reporters at his residence on the Somalia Drive in the Township of Gardnersville outside Monrovia.

He said screening and diagnosing people suspected of the Ebola disease is not enough, noting that it was necessary to test each and every resident in the country.

This, he noted, will help the Ebola Task Force to easily identify people infected with the virus who are hiding in the communities.

‘This can easily be like how it was done when the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) was conducting the National Population and Housing Census  in the country,” he said

Rep. Anderson is therefore also recommending to government to order every citizen to remain home for at least three days to allow the Ebola Task Force carry out the test process.
