MONROVIA, August 22 (LINA) -The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has distributed 3,900 gallons of fuel to 132 media institutions across the country to enhance their capacity in creating public awareness and reporting on the Ebola disease.
PUL Secretary General D. Kaihenneh Sengbah told the Liberia News Agency Thursday that in the face of the harsh economic realities and huge responsibilities of the media, the donation provides minimum support to media entities.
He said 53 community radio stations in the 15 counties, 31 urban radio stations in greater Montserrado County, 48 newspapers and seven television stations received gasoline coupons.
Sengbah thanked the media for its role played conveying anti-Ebola messages since the outbreak of the disease in March.
The PUL Secretary General lauded the Liberian Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) and the Grand Coalition of Liberian Organizations (GRANDCOLIO) for making the donation possible.
He noted that the LPRC contributed 2,500 gallons for newspapers, television and urban radio stations, while the GRANDCOLIO donated 1,400 gallons for community radio stations throughout the country.
According to Mr. Sengbah, the PUL is looking forward to more support, protection and free space for the media to keep reporting on the Ebola outbreak.
