Rep. Snowe Wants Legislature Exhibit National Leadership
By: Wilfred Gortor (Intern)
MONROVIA August 21(LINA) - Montserrado County Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe has called on the National Legislature to demonstrate leadership by collaborating with the other branches of government to move forward the country.
He said members of the National Legislature should serve as examples for their constituents by showing respect for constituted authorities, as being part of the legislature means being part of the entire government.
He made the statement on Wednesday, August 20, when he served as guest on the early morning radio breakfast show on Truth FM in Monrovia.
Representative Snowe observed that some members of the Legislature have vehemently criticized government’s efforts to eradicate the Ebola virus from the country.
But, he said the National Taskforce on Ebola set up by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to eradicate the Ebola disease from the country must be given the necessary support by every Liberian, including officials of government, adding that "unjustifiable criticism will do us no good.”
Snowe warned that efforts to save the state from its current dilemma can only succeed with the collective efforts of all Liberians, saying, “this is not about the Executive or the Legislative branch of government, it is about working together as a people, a unit to survive or live divided and perish as fools.”
"We as lawmakers need to hold together for this is a national struggle. We have a capacity problem that needs to be solved by bringing our people together in the interest of nationalism. Let’s desist from criticizing our own government,” Snowe emphasized.
