SANNIQUELLIE, August 21 (LINA) - Mayor Dorr Cooper of Ganta, Nimba County’s most densely populated city, has disclosed that nine persons died of the deadly Ebola virus in the city on August 19.
Mayor Cooper named Ebola hotspots in Ganta as Old Car Garage, Ganta Bye-Pass, Toweh Yard, Boe Community and New Ganta.
New Ganta topped the list with six deaths, followed by LPMC with two and one reported in the Boe Community.
As a result of the mass burial of these Ebola victims on Tuesday, many residents of Ganta have begun fleeing the City to remote villages and towns in search of refuge.
The spokesman of the County Health Team, Menmon Tokpa, told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that the nine deaths on August 19 increased the Ebola death toll in Ganta to 23.
Meanwhile, the Nimba County Ebola Task Force conducted its first Ebola burial in Saclepea on Tuesday, 19 August.
