WOPEL Lauds Pres. Sirleaf’s Efforts to Contain Ebola

TUBMANBURG, August 19 (LINA) – The Executive Director of Women in Peace Initiative (WOPEI) in Suehn Mecca District, Bomi County, Agnes Sando Siryon, has commended President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for her efforts to contain the Ebola virus.

Madam Siryon said President Sirleaf has demonstrated strong determination to save the lives of the Liberian people by eradicating the deadly disease in the country.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Zuih Town, Suehn Mecca District, Bomi County on Saturday, Madam Siryon said the efforts being exerted by the President and her government should convince all Liberians that they are concerned about the safety of Liberians.

Siryon cited government’s declaration of a State of Emergency, provision of funding to the health sector, setting up of a Task Force to eradicate the disease, engagement of the international community and foreign governments for support, among others, as major steps taken by the government t contain the disease.

She urged citizens to put aside their differences and join in efforts to eradicate the disease that has claimed the lives of many Liberians.

Meanwhile, the WOPEI Executive Director has disclosed that the organization has trained 50 female members to join their male counterparts to disseminate Ebola preventive messages in all districts in the county.
