LNRCS Ebola Awareness Covers 44 Towns, Villages in Gbarpolu
By Emmanuel Mondaye, LINA Gbarpolu County Correspondent
BOPOLU, August 16 (LINA) - The ongoing Ebola awareness by the local chapter of the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has now covered 44 towns and villages in two districts in Gbarpolu County.
The LNRCS, in its first weekly awareness statistics released August 15, said some 4,795 inhabitants of Bopolu and Kongba Districts have received the Ebola messages and are implementing health measures announced by the Ministry of Health.
The report disclosed that though the people initially had mixed feelings about the deadly virus, the household visitation strategy has convinced them about the reality of the disease.
Meanwhile, inhabitants of the two districts are commending the LNRCS for the sensitization about the Ebola disease, and have appealed that the exercise be extended to other parts of the county, including Kongbor and Belle Yalla.
In a related development, the Gbarpolu County LNRCS Field Officer, Mr. Seth Tarweh, has confirmed reports that some residents of the provincial mining town of Wiaman denied LNRCS volunteers entry into the town.
He said the LNRCS visit to the area was necessary to ensure that the area, which has an estimated population of 20,000, receives the Ebola awareness messages early since no case of the disease has been reported in the county.
