VOINJAMA, August 16 (LINA) -With the recent outbreak of Ebola in Zogolemai Township, Voinjama District in Lofa County, residents have intensified preventive measures to avert the further spread of the virus in the town.
Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency Friday, Dougomai Town Chief Woiyea Kollie disclosed that a crisis meeting was convened by the citizens to review and scale up strategies to avert the situation in the area.
Mr. Kollie named the measures as intensifying public education in market places, community centers, restriction of movement in and out of the town as well as mass clean-up exercises in communities at weekends.
The Chief also told LINA that a watchdog committee has been set up tasked with monitoring sanitation offenders and reporting back to authorities of the town.
Kollie said dumpsites in various communities in the town have been relocated to help prevent the outbreak and spread of not only Ebola, but other diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.
“We can intensify all these measures, but attitudinal and sanitation change are the leading and key factors to prevent certain diseases,” Kollie emphasized.
