Defense Files Motion For Re-trial Of Drug Case
By: Comfort Johnson (Intern)
MONROVIA, August 14 (LINA) -The Defense Team for Police Officer Perry Dolo and others convicted for illegal possession of narcotics recently, on Thursday filed a motion at Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice for retrial of the case.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Dolo, Augustine Saah, Sekou Rogers, Cyrus Sliwon and Mohammed Bah were last Thursday, August 8, found guilty of drug trafficking by a Petit Jury of four females and two males after deliberating for over two hours.
In the motion at the Criminal Court “C” Thursday, Defense Counsel Arthur Johnson said the evidence adduced by the prosecution and the testimonies of the witnesses during the trial were inconsistent with law.
Johnson said predicated upon that, the court should grant his motion for retrial. “I pray that this honorable court grant my clients a new trial to ensure justice,” he added.
Following Johnson’s submission, Presiding Judge Yusuf Kaba said arguments from both the defense and the prosecution on the motion will be heard on Monday, August 18, 2014.
It can be recalled that all five defendants were on November 9 arrested by the Liberia National Police at the Tienne Checkpoint in Grand Cape Mount County and charged with illegal possession of narcotic drugs (marijuana) worth three million Liberian dollars.
