By Prince Nagbe
MONROVIA, August 12 (LINA) - National Petroleum (NP) has donated a check for L$1 million to the Ministry of Health as its contribution to the fight to contain the Ebola virus ravishing the country.
Making the presentation on Monday at the Ministry of Health, NP Board Chairman Francis Dennis said it was institution’s desire to play a role in curbing the continuous spread of the virus and the loss of lives.
Dennis said NP was especially disheartened over the death of health workers who lost their lives in their desires to save lives.
He said NP is also concerned about the challenges and threat that go with fighting this deadly virus, adding, “We are fighting a disease that is invisible and very contagious and deadly and as such, this is our own way helping the government fight it”.
Dennis called on well-meaning Liberians to rally around the Government by giving financial and other forms of support, including sensitizing people in the communities about the dangers of the disease.
Receiving the check, Deputy Minister for Administration, Matthew Flomo thanked the National Petroleum for the donation and assured that the money will be used in curbing further spread of the disease.
Minister Flomo said limited fuel for vehicles responsible for burial as well as transporting patients from their communities to Ebola Treatment Centers was a major challenge facing the Health Ministry.
