Two Drown In Bong County

By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, July 31 (LINA) -Two persons have drowned in the Jor River in Gbarnga, Bong County, according to the police in the county.

A police report obtained by the Liberia News Agency named the victims as Oretha Flomo, 23, and Princess Kardakai, 4, who both died on Sunday, July 27.

According to the police report, Oretha drowned when the raft on which she and two unidentified men were riding capsized after it hit strong current in the middle of the river.

They were on their way from nearby Yoewoeta where they had gone on Saturday for the Independence Day celebration.

The men could not save Oretha as they, too, were fighting for their lives, according to the police report.

According to the report, Princess drowned in the river where her mother, Maybel Weah, had sent her to dispose of her feces.

The report said a 15-man jury has been set up to examine the body of the late Oretha, which has since been recovered from the river, while a search for the body of Princess is still ongoing.
